The setting for the start of this story is our local cafe, dubbed Peterborough's Cottage in the city. Gourmet food and drinks on the patio overlooking Peterborough's waterway. A beautiful backdrop and the perfect environment for stand up paddling. At this point looking upon this little oasis, SUP was the last thing that entered my mind, until that is, it was a part of the reality that was in front of me. A few people out on boards going through the motions and exuding a calmness as they glided through the water. Instantly I knew we had to experience this and meet the people involved.
Moving forward with our plan, we sent out an e-mail to connect us with our local SUP shop, Peterborough SUP. The e-mail detailed our interest and a quick reply from Kelly, the owner, followed. We were to meetup and discuss a formal agreement, the use of his equipment and expertise on his end and we would use our multimedia platforms to help promote his shop while also shooting a video on stand up paddleboarding. The stage was set.
A week later we met with Kelly who was eager to get us on the water for a lesson. Things went well, Kelly`s instructions were amazing and we settled into our groove. With the lesson out of the way and Wayne and I familiar with the basics, a video shoot was scheduled for the following week. Fast forward back to the present.
Today the sun was smiling down on us and the water was like glass, conditions were amazing and we were set to film. Kelly joined us and Jen an employee at Peterborough SUP. Kelly was kind enough to to give us all the equipment and support we needed to be successful. Jen put on a hula hoop show while out on the paddleboard which we thought was quite the highlight to our outing. There were several onlookers taking in the scene and it made for a great atmosphere. Music playing from the fugoo bluetooth speaker strapped to the paddleboard and the group of us enjoying a relaxing paddle taking in everything the environment had to offer. When the footage was taken that was needed it was back to the shop to share our thanks. We can`t thank Kelly and his staff enough for there help in this and showing us the SUP lifestyle. Now it was time to hit the rooftop patio at Rielly`s Pub and cap of an amazing day with a few beers and good conversation.
This is the first of many adventures to come and we are looking forward to the friends we will make, the memories that will be etched into our lives and where our adventures will take us. We urge you to follow along and take this ride with us.
